چکیده

In this note, we summarize and compare various model predictions for pp total cross-section σ tot , giving an estimate of the range of predictions for the total crosssection, σ tot expected at the LHC. We concentrate on the results for σ tot obtained in a particular QCD based model of the energy dependence of the total cross-section, including the effect of soft gluon radiation. We obtain the range of predictions in this model by exploring the allowed range of model parameters. We further give a handy parametrisation of these results which incidentally spans the range of various other available predictions at the LHC as well.

Diffraction with CDF II at the Tevatron

Results on diffraction from the Fermilab Tevatron collider obtained by the CDF II Collaboration using data from pp̄ collisions at √ s =1.96 TeV are reviewed and compared with theoretical expectations. Implications for predictions of exclusive Higgs boson production rates at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed.

Present status and future prospects for a Higgs boson discovery at the Tevatron and LHC

Discovering the Higgs boson is one of the primary goals of both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The present status of the Higgs search is reviewed and future prospects for discovery at the Tevatron and LHC are considered. This talk focuses primarily on the Higgs boson of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension. Theoretical expectations for the Higgs boson a...

Nonperturbative QCD effects in forward scattering at the LHC

We study infrared contributions to semihard parton-parton interactions by considering an effective charge whose finite infrared behavior is constrained by a dynamical mass scale. Using an eikonal QCDbased model in order to connect this semihard parton-level dynamics to the hadron-hadron scattering, we obtain predictions for the proton-proton (pp) and antiproton-proton (p̄p) total cross sections,...

TOTEM: The experiment to measure the total proton–proton cross section at LHC

TOTEM is an experiment dedicated to the measurement of the proton–proton total cross section (σ TOT ) at LHC, i.e. the probability that two protons interact at the center of mass energy of 14 TeV. In addition to that, it will also study the proton–proton elastic scattering and diffractive dissociation processes. TOTEM foresees specific measurements and experimental techniques which are very dif...
